Sound Your Feelings
Some of you are aware that my healing took a huge leap forward when I discovered that my own sounds could heal. So I’ve decided to share some Sound Healing Tips that you can use for your own healing. I’ve been privileged to teach hundreds of healers across the country how to access their own powerful vocal healing sounds.
Before we explore sounding your feelings for your healing, if you are wondering if sound healing actually works and how it works, I suggest you watch the videos on my Sound Healing audio course page. The first video shares some of the science behind sound healing, and its powerful role in alternative healing. In the second video I share results I have experienced, and some of my students and clients have gotten using vocal sound healing techniques.
Sounds can heal the underlying emotions beneath anxiety, depression, physical pain, chronic illnesses and even incurable conditions.
When I discovered that sounds could actually heal, I experienced a number of conditions that pushed me to discover the breadth and depth of how sounds can heal.
One of the very first “medicine” or healing songs I accessed was my comfort song. This sweet little series of vowel sounds only came to me when I was feeling deeply depressed and in need of comfort. Quite frankly, I couldn’t remember it at any other time. But when I was in deep emotional pain, placed my hand on my heart and began to sing, there was my song. Within minutes my emotional pain lifted and I was at ease.
I’ve also used sounds to heal personal physical conditions including MS, a collapsed fallopian tube, cancer, cold and flus and more. Every time, I focus on a physical condition, I discovered sounds of emotional pain at the root. When those sounds are lovingly released, the limits to my healing dissolve, and I’m free to truly and fully heal. The same thing happens consistently for my students and clients. So…
… one of the first skills I teach new sound healers to develop is the ability to sound their feelings.
Why?
Sounds express our pains, desires, and joys in a way that goes beyond what you can state in words. It expresses feelings from past lives, other realities, and from the full and total experiences of your soul’s journey. Sounding doesn’t necessarily segment into specific circumstances. It goes to source feelings that have been experienced in multiple settings. Sound also gets to layers of feelings beneath the surface of what is immediately apparent to you.
With sound you don’t have to understand the reason for the feeling or where it has come from. This is not about the mind figuring anything out. This is about raw emotion being honored and recognized, so you need absolute honesty with yourself.
Healing sounds of truth can discharge pent up energy.
You must have courage when you sound your feelings. If you want real healing to occur by sounding your feelings, you must be truthful with the sounds that are longing to be expressed. Not all healing sounds are pretty. Discharging sounds that release pent up energy in the from of anger or sorrow can even sound downright ugly.
A sound is not good or bad because it is hurtful, mournful or angry. It is simply a feeling that is stuck inside you and wants to be acknowledged. If you are intent on healing, you can’t skirt the edges because a certain sound makes you uncomfortable. If a certain sound is your truth, it is your truth.
One of the great gifts that occurs in sounding your feelings truthfully is that a part of you that has been in pain finally gets to be fully understood. The outcome of witnessing yourself at such a deep level is absolute peace.
Imagine for a moment that you are the only person in the world that can truly understand the absolute depths of your pain and joy. Imagine that you become not only the ultimate person expressing that depth, but you are also the ultimate witness. Consider how relieved your subconscious mind becomes when you are witnessed with love at the very core of who you are.
Within moments, years and years of pent-up sorrow and anger can be voiced and released. You do not feed the anger or sorrow–you express its true nature in your loving truth and in doing so, those feelings are finally free to transform into an honest state of rest and peace.
You are no longer “trying” peace on for size. You are no longer affirming a serene reality that you aren’t feeling on the inside. You actually have released the pent-up emotions so that you can feel peace naturally.
How to do sound healing safely.
You’ll need a private place in which to sound, unless you want to be witnessed by someone who is willing to hold space for you.
I’ve had students that have driven their car to a private place, because that was the best way for them to be away from people and feel safe enough to make their sounds. The shower is another place in which many people feel safe enough to give voice to their true feelings in the moment. And still others choose to muffle their sounds in a pillow (used only for discharging negative feelings).
When you finish discharging your feelings of anger, sorrow and hurt, be sure to linger in sounds of peacefulness. It is best if these sounds come directly from you, but if you are too spent to make another sound, put on some tranquil music and bathe in the restful state it inspires. You need this last step in order to transform the discharged energy in your space and in you into balance before you continue in your day.

Oops! I think my first comment should have been posted on the Sound Healing Tip #4 page – sorry!
PS_I forgot to say that as I listened to the sounds that came through, they did change as you said, going from a primal, elemental, shamanic quality to more melodic, rhythmic and peaceful.

This explains what happened when I tried to use sound healing and Reiki on an incredible pain that suddenly flared up in my wrist. I'd damaged it badly the year before, but the pain this time was worse than the original injury; so bad that I knew that if I tried to move I would either throw up or pass out (possibly both) which is quite frightening when you live alone in a remote spot.
I ran the Reiki on my wrist, then started to sing 'at' it, directing the sound to the painful area, and I wouldn't have believed it, but IT GOT EVEN WORSE! I somehow knew that sound was needed though, so I stopped 'directing' it, and instead of deliberately singing, I just listened to the sounds that came through my voice.
Amazing! The pain began to subside within a few seconds, and within about 5 minutes was completely gone.
Your article explains it all!
Thanks.

Jan,
Yes, you discovered it. You sing what it there hidden within and once expressed, the psyche and body no longer need to create the condition that creates the pain. Underneath it all we don't really want to be fixed do we? We want to be understood! I'm so glad you followed your intuition to you your own awareness of this!
