How to Use Emotions for Your Healing and Awakening
When you were young, did you learn to keep your emotions subdued—preferably where they couldn’t be seen and heard?
Personally, I was a very emotional child. In an instant, my emotions could swing from being ecstatically happy to being downright angry. It wasn’t my nature to be quiet about much of anything, so I was very vocal as I was having these intense feelings.
As a result, my mother often told me to not be so moody. I have no doubt I was a taxing child to raise. It was years before I understood those emotional swings that caused my mother so much stress, were actually telling an important story about me and what I needed.
I’ll tell you more about what they were indicating in a minute. First I want to talk about why understanding your emotions is so important to your physical healing, as well as your emotional harmony.
Why Understanding Your Emotions Is Important for Physical Healing and Emotional Harmony
Emotions are not a necessary evil in the way many of us have been taught. And they absolutely should not be ignored or suppressed. There are serious repercussions to suppressing emotions, including depression and illness. In this article, Sarita Upadhyay shares 11 ways repressed emotions ultimately come out. They just don’t stay down for long.
Now, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t exercise some consciousness about how and when you express them.
But it does mean emotions arise for reasons, and those reasons are telling a story about fundamental emotional needs that are getting met or not met.
If you have emotional needs that didn’t get met during a crucial point in your development, you are experiencing an emotional gap.
Because these emotional needs weren’t met at a young age, you may not know how to fulfill those needs now.
They aren’t needs that would be nice to fulfill. They are fundamental to your wholeness as an individual.
Consider this. If you never felt truly wanted as a child, do you think it might affect your ability to feel truly wanted by a partner, friend or employer?
You bet it does.
Meeting that fundamental need to feel wanted, finally allows you to experience what that feels like.
And finally, because that emotional need is fulfilled and in your personal field, you naturally attract people that want to be with you.
The Stories Behind the Emotions
When I was healing from cancer, I used my sound healing and silent meditations to help me heal. During those moments of contemplation, as I held my feelings of frustration and abandonment, I discovered the unmet emotional need behind my emotions was a need to feel accepted—completely.
I was good at accepting the parts of me I liked, but not so good at accepting the parts of me I didn’t like.
But what I finally found out was that the parts of me I didn’t like were the ones carrying trauma from my childhood—specifically, sexual abuse.
Basically, I was rejecting the most vulnerable part of myself that had been left to carry the burden of my abuse.
Once I brought my love and compassion to the vulnerable part of me, my healing took off.
You have stories behind your emotions, too. If you want to heal physically and you want to experience emotional harmony, those vulnerable, tender places inside you need love too.
How Do You Use Your Emotions to Get to Physical Healing?
That’s the question I devoted decades of my life to discover. Here’s what I learned.
You need to be willing to feel compassion for everything you like and dislike about yourself.
Behind what you dislike about yourself are the vulnerable places that have been carrying your secrets and burdens since childhood, and even from previous lives.
When you are willing to bring compassion to the vulnerable places where your difficult emotions live, you free up all that energy you’ve been using to judge yourself.
That energy is now available for healing. The more you relax and the more you love, the more your innate spiritual gifts rise to the surface, and the more you heal on every level.
This is why I’m so pleased to share The Holding guided meditation that was given to me by my ancestors. It is a gentle way to bring to yourself and receive compassion for the difficult emotions you’ve been carrying.
Holding takes you into the womb of creation, where you can be comforted in Divine love, until difficult emotions and physical pain rest.
If you haven’t already, you can receive a free download of this meditation at my non-profit website, Sacred Feminine Awakening.com.
Consider using The Holding every day for the next 30 days, and notice what has changed in you. Are you calmer, more at peace, more hopeful, freer in your body, and experiencing less pain? These are all commonly reported results from Holding.
Then come back here, and share your experience. I’ll be waiting to hear from you.
