Staying positive is part of the self healing journey, but how do you do it when you are not feeling well?
As someone who has spent a lot of her time in the shop healing herself, I can really relate to this question. And yet, that’s what the journey is really all about—learning how to maintain such a positive and clear state of being that it is difficult for anything physical, mental or emotional to harm you.
When we are healing it is easy to become hyper-focused on getting physically well and forget that we are experiencing this unease in our bodies for a reason. We create experiences to discover our capacity to love—whether our current focus is on health, relationship, career, purpose or money—in the journey of self healing, we are stretching our awareness of Divine love.
Love is very positive energy wouldn’t you say? Have you noticed that it is possible to be sick and tired, while still feeling love? If you haven’t experienced this yet, you might want to consider opening to the possibility of holding all of those feelings simultaneously.
In fact, here is a guided meditation you can do to further your self healing.
Use this exercise to bring your mind, body and spirit into a state of rest and clarity. As you feel greater peace, you will naturally be in a more positive state.
Take a few breaths to center and focus yourself. Now, be completely present to how you are feeling. If you ache, be aware of it with your full attention. If you are exhausted, feel the fullness of your exhaustion.
It is important to remember that with this exercise you are not trying to change anything. You are witnessing and being present to what you are actually experiencing in this moment.
Now allow yourself to feel compassion for what you are feeling. Does that sound strange? It’s only strange because it isn’t natural for many of us to feel compassion for ourselves.
Yet, wouldn’t you feel compassion for an injured animal, child or another adult? Of course you would. Your heart would go out to them with great concern for their well-being.
If you need to imagine you are holding a child or pet that needs your compassionate love, and that child or pet represents that part(s) of you most needing your attention. Allow your expression of compassion to be deep and full of love.
Remember, you are not fixing anything. You are embodying loving presence. You are witnessing what is actually happening within the arms of your love. If your mind tries to engage you with busy thoughts attempting to figure something out or make changes, invite it to become still and direct your mind to take you deeper into your compassion.
Now notice what emerges from your compassionate care. Do you see colors? Hear sounds? Do you see a symbol or a visualization image? Are you aware of the cells of your body? Does a word or affirmation come to mind? Does an herb or remedy make its way from your subconscious mind to your conscious awareness?
Now hold whatever comes to you in love. When insights come from the silence they are true and not the machinations of your mind. This is a healing remedy for you.
Notice how you are feeling emotionally. Are you experiencing greater peace and tranquility? Do you feel greater confidence that healing is occurring? Do you feel more positive about yourself and your process?
Stay with this silent, peaceful, healing space until it feels complete for the moment. You can return to this space of restoration whenever you need to.
Remember self healing is usually a process, not instant gratification.
