Some years ago I was introduced to a healing process called Ancestral Lineage Clearing. My capable guide took me on a journey into my past where I recognized a family pattern that had been limiting my expression in the world. In a beautiful journey, I traveled back in time to the point at which a decision was made that created the challenges I was currently experiencing. Lovingly, she guided me to consider a different choice and to allow my mind/body/spirit to accept the positive outcomes of a more amenable decision. Since then, I have watched myself feel less stuck and making choices in greater alignment with my true desires. You can learn more about the kind of Ancestral Lineage Clearing I did at http://ancestrallineageclearing.com/.
Oh, I still need to learn and embody my lessons. They haven’t gone away, but my approach to my lessons has changed. I am more thoughtful and responsive to life’s situations than I am reactive. In other words, I see reactions as reflexes based upon my past experiences. Responses come from a greater sense of my truth and purpose.
For example, my parents tended to worry about their lack of money. If I begin worry about a lack of money, I know this is part of my family history and a reaction based upon a fear that has been handed down to me through many generations. However, because I have released much of our family’s ancestral fear around money, I can now celebrate the opportunities that financial transitions bring. I have developed trust in the Divine and in myself, so I respond to financial challenges with that trust and enthusiasm for what lies ahead.
When it came to wellness, my mother was chronically ill, generally finding there was very little that brought her relief from her pain. It would be very easy for me to assume that when faced with a chronic condition, I am doomed to suffer as my mother did, but in releasing my connection to that past and my mother’s fears, I am free to become well. The family pattern of needing to suffer has the opportunity to be freed through me in this lifetime, if I choose to meet the pattern with compassion, and redirect my energy toward new choices.
I remember a client telling me that healing the past is not necessary if we are completely focused on the present. This is true, but depending upon how you are experiencing the present, this can also be a way to hide from painful memories. If your present reality is being shaped by painful memories from the past, then the past is quite a significant part of you’re here and now. Past fears and pain don’t just go away by themselves. However, they do transform when met with true compassion in the present moment.
It requires conscious attention to be able to sort through our challenges and to recognize which ones are influenced from our family lineages, and one way you can identify family patterns is to notice your reactions. Another way to recognize the need for ancestral clearing is to notice the issues that continue to arise over and over, seemingly regardless of what you do to introduce new beliefs and behaviors. If you have reactions that seem to be out of your control, you might need to look further back in time in order to gain control. Resentments against family members or guilt that seem to be passed on from generation to generation can also be indications that feelings, arising from the past, need to be released.
If you are consciously engaged in self-healing, you are probably aware that pent-up regrets, guilt and resentment can contribute to illness. If your mind and emotions are disturbed by these emotions, so is your body. By addressing these feelings and the ensuing blocks with compassion, and by changing historical and cellular agreements through Ancestral Lineage Clearing, I was able to reclaim the past, empowering my present life. As I look back from where I am now, I realize the clearings helped my future as well, because beliefs and decisions I make in regard to my healing come from a place of conscious response rather than reactive reflex.

Misa, this is a great article. Thank you for the link to Ancestral Lineage Clearing. I've been working at self-healing since my twenties (I'm in my fifties now). Most of the techniques I used (talk therapy/journaling/personal dev) took way too much time. But since I'm uncovering my limiting beliefs, using gratitude, being present and having energy work I've found a huge shift has occurred rather quickly. Thanks again for sharing.

Marianne,
Like you, my journey included a lot of traditional approaches to emotional/spiritual healing and eventually I went deeper into alternative approaches. They all have some gift to offer. And it is lovely to decide to go deeper into our own feeling and beliefs to discover what is waiting to be recognized and loved. Indeed, I too have discovered major transformations occur when I am willing to be fully present to my truth. Thank you for sharing some of your journey today.
