I truly appreciate your questions regarding your healing journey. One of our readers asked about healing high blood pressure. You’ll read the results of my meditation regarding high blood pressure below, but first lets take a look at some research.
Research About High Blood Pressure
According to an article at: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/high_blood_pressure/article_em.htm,
High blood pressure has become the second most common reason for medical office visits in the United States.
Further this same article cautions us:
Important complications of uncontrolled or poorly treated high blood pressure include heart attack, congestive heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, peripheral artery disease, and aortic aneurysms (weakening of the wall of the aorta, leading to widening or ballooning of the aorta).
So clearly, high blood pressure is not something you want to ignore. There are many physical causes spelled out quite well in this article form WebMD: http://www.webmd.com/hypertension-high-blood-pressure/guide/blood-pressure-causes. I recommend reading this to see if there are any changes you need to make in your life that could be contributing to high blood pressure.
Many of us are now aware that studies indicate salt can contribute significantly to high blood pressure. (Some source as above.) So if you are a heavy salt user, that is one thing you can change immediately.
The two articles above also indicate that in 95% of the cases multiple causes may be involved and there are incidences in which no clear cause can be determined. This is where taking a look at the emotional root could be helpful.
Definition of High Blood Pressure with Clues About Its Metaphysical Meaning
Before I share with you what I received about the emotional root, I’d like you to consider this excerpt from medicinenet.com, http://www.medicinenet.com/high_blood_pressure/page4.htm:
The vast majority of patients with essential hypertension have in common a particular abnormality of the arteries: an increased resistance (stiffness or lack of elasticity) in the tiny arteries that are most distant from the heart (peripheral arteries or arterioles). The arterioles supply oxygen-containing blood and nutrients to all of the tissues of the body. The arterioles are connected by capillaries in the tissues to the veins (the venous system), which returns the blood to the heart and lungs. Just what makes the peripheral arteries become stiff is not known.
This stiffness is significant. Let’s consider what came to me in meditation and see how the symptoms (which I read about after the meditation) correlate with the spiritual guidance I received. Energetically, high blood pressure is about stressful, unrealistic pressure you place on yourself. This pressure often leads to a sense of overwhelm, helplessness, frustration and exhaustion. Being too rigid (stiff) in your expectations, you find it difficult to trust yourself or others.
Metaphysical Meaning Behind High Blood Pressure
When I asked about what you can do emotionally to address high blood pressure, this is what I heard:
Give yourself a break. Relax your standards. Surrender your need to control, know the outcome or be right. Find compassion for the imperfections in life and notice all the imperfections of nature that actually make it so wonderful and relaxing. Discover the humor in human imperfection.
I’m getting out Louise Hay’s book right now. Let’s see how this compares to her intuitive wisdom. She suggests that high blood pressure is about a long-standing emotional problem not solved.
Let’s look at one more physical/emotional relationship. It is also believed that inflammation may be a predictor of high blood pressure. So if you are eating a diet of foods you are allergic to, you may be stimulating an inflammatory response by putting your body under too much stress. If you have toxins in your body, such as bacteria, metals, parasites, yeast, molds, or viruses, they create significant stress on your body.
Inflammation, according to Louise Hay, is about fear, seeing red, inflamed thinking…Anger and frustration about conditions you are looking at in your life. In my experience the word itself tells the story: feeling inflamed and angry about what you seem unable to do.
We’ve got a lot here, so let’s put it all together. Emotionally, you may be feeling frustrated, overwhelmed and out of control about your life. You are probably a bit or lot of a perfectionist and have little tolerance when your expectations are not met. You are rigid about your standards and therefore have a difficult time trusting that you or anyone else can meet them.
Your diet may include too many foods that are inflaming you (in parallel to the inflamed state you feel internally). You may not be getting enough of the right kind of exercise to keep you limber and relaxed. You may have too many toxins in your system, causing your body to inflame in response.
Many of us grew up in emotionally stressful homes where expectations for performance were unreasonably high. Many of us had parents that had no idea how to be with their frustrations, and so we didn’t learn proper methods of learning how to be with anger’s true lessons. Some of us came from families with rigid political or religious views and so we learned to hold on tightly to our perspectives. We ate sugary and carbohydrate-laden foods that critters such as bacteria, yeast, molds and parasites feed on. And we may also have learned very little about how to keep ourselves physically fit.
We grow up to work in stressful environments where the same habits we learned at home are repeated. Now, 72 million people in the US alone are diagnosed with high blood pressure. It isn’t really a surprise is it?
Now That You Have Some Insight About the Metaphysical Meaning, What Can You Do?
First I suggest reading the articles mentioned above to see what changes you could make in your life-style, exercise and diet.
Second, give yourself permission and opportunities to get comfortable with a little more chaos, lower standards and no control. I know it’s really scary at first, but your health is worth it.
Nature is a great place to learn about the wonders of chaos and imperfection because it is all around us, and we can actually find peace in its raggedy edges, unpredictable growth patterns, and erratic sounds. Read the second chapter of my book, “The Root of All Healing” for more ideas.
A good bio-feedback technician can help you discover what may be causing inflammation in your body. Then you can choose an appropriate course of action for eliminating toxins and addressing food allergies that may be stressing your body.
Use the The Holding guided meditation to be able to hold your frustration and anger in compassion. Compassion naturally dissipates the charge and allows you to experience emotional clarity.
Most of all, laugh at life, as much and as often as you can. Notice that comedians make their livings out of poking fun at all of our “mistakes.” Without our foibles and imperfections, life would be so dull and boring.
You are probably a colorful and dynamic person just waiting to express yourself in wild abandon. You may need to do that one small step at a time, but enjoying yourself and enjoying your life in all its minute detail is a journey worth taking.

I have been having high blood pressure issues recently and have had many tests. I also have been on a spiritual journey since I was in my 20’s. I have been reading metaphysical information and feel this can help me find some balance.
Ursula says
I read the article on blood pressure and it is so true what you said ’emotionally I may be feeling frustrated, and out of control of my life’ and now I need to relax accept that life is not rigid and let my standards drop. I will read the other books to get more insight and direction. Thank you for answering my questions.
Misa Hopkins says
Ursula, it is such a beautiful gift we give ourselves when we take the pressure off and create space to see the wonderful ways life itself is already doing some of the fine tuning and heavy lifting for us. 🙂
Sam Green says
After being diagnosed with Hypertension last November I underwent extensive testing to figure out the cause. My diet and lifestyle are pretty close to perfect. My tests results showed everything was perfect?
I have been on meds since but I am insistent on finding the cause for this ailment. I have been on an intense spiritual awakening journey this past year or so. And this article really, really resonates! It describes my unrealistic expectations I have of myself and the overwhelm I have felt.
Thank you so much! This has brought me much comfort and given me direction as to where I need to do some “work”.
Misa Hopkins says
Hi Sam. I’m so glad you found your way here. It is amazing how much pressure we can put on ourselves and then watch it play out in our bodies. I discovered that the works started to feel really good as I deepened into enjoying life. I imagine you just might have a beautiful adventure ahead of you!
Alice says
I can totally relate to that description! With the pandemic, we’ve been affected in so many ways: work, money, housing. And I also lost my mom a few weeks ago. My blood pressure has never been this high, it’s scary. I should see the doctor soon. But reading this sure helps me work my healing inside out. Thank you!
Misa Hopkins says
Alice, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I lost my own mother some years ago, and discovered it can take a much bigger toll on us than we sometimes realize. There are two things I can suggest to support you in lowering your blood pressure, in addition to seeing your doctor. My Holding meditation is very soothing for many people. You can get it for free at: https://SacredFeminineAwakening.com. I had a client who chose to drink an herbal tea and listened to my sound medicine recording, Body Harmony and got good results. The sound healing is a bit “far out there” even for me, but she did have success. https://misahopkins.com/shop/sound-healing/body-harmony-sound-healing-session-copy/ Most of all, I wish you peace as you heal.
Jacqueline MacKay says
Thanks for this
I read it just when I needed
I exercise and take reasonable care of myself, but I’m starting to see that I carry so much anger because my 19 year old son died 4.5 years ago and family and friends sure don’t want to hear about it anymore
I think they believe I should have said my peace about this by now… this grief sadness anger about child loss is endless and as you mentioned I have started to keep it in as other people think there is a time limit on grief. This helps thanks
Misa Hopkins says
Jacqueline, I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child. I’m quite certain loss doesn’t get any tougher than that, so my heart is with you. Taking care of you after such a loss is vital. Finding a good way to release the anger and finding your inner peace with his crossing is vital to both your mental, physical and spiritual health. I do not personally believe that grief needs to be endless, nor do I think that is healthy. Choosing to heal from the loss includes a willingness to know that you and your son are always connected, whether or not he is in a body. His love for you never died and neither did your love for him. It endures forever. If you wanted to, you could find comfort if you allowed yourself to feel his love. You might want to do a little research for books on grieving the loss of a child to help you find out how others have found their healing and recovery. I’m fairly certain that your son would not want you to spend the rest of your life in grief over his departure. I expect he is looking forward to the day that your pain is gone and you smile with happy tears when you feel his spirit near you.

Dear Misa ~ I’m truly Grate~Full for your caring information here. I had a most surprising high blood pressure reading yesterday, on my 1st visit to a new dentist. I’m at level 60 (new term for age!), and for my whole life, I’ve had quite low blood pressure. I felt pure relief reading your possible interpretations. I’m always looking for ‘more’ than what is available in the physical domain, and you offer it freely. I feel I’ve long been dancing with a perfectionist nature, so Bingo! I love what you write to others below, too. How wonderful that we all allow sharing here, to benefit one another. Many thanks!!
Misa Hopkins says
Lora, I’m so glad to hear the article resonated with your own experience. I agree. What each of us brings to the table in terms of our life experience and awareness, helps us all heal!
Subbu says
Hi Misa,
This has opened up my eyes by confirmation of perfectionist inability leads to the above mentioned state of a person.
Great Insight. Thanks
Misa Hopkins says
May you, and the perfectionist inside you, find a whole new relationship that is healthier and more satisfying!
Danielle Burke says
I have never commented on a blog or forum before, and trust that I have read many. But this one I had to. Wow. Thank you so much for this enlightening information. It just makes perfect sense. Now prayers I can banish the perfectionist in me and let my colors shine. Thank you! Thank you!
Misa Hopkins says
I’m so glad you found this helpful. I have found if I let my perfectionist have a rest or vacation, then she is available when I really do need her, while creating space for other parts of me to have their expression. In that way, I honor the perfectionist in me who is trying to serve me, while opening up the doors to more of my true self. Creating space for your colors to shine is a beautiful way of relating to your brilliant self and letting her come forward!
Ambriel Joy says
Thank you, I’ve read Louise Hay many times but trip over the language – to me it comes across as a bit judgmental – you put it in perspective for me and gave me a new way of looking at it. I’ve had a long, difficult road to travel and have completely changed my life, but there are some things that took hold anyway and your words have helped me to get some clarity to help myself heal.
Misa Hopkins says
I’m glad this perspective was helpful to you Ambriel. Louise Hay’s Blue Book of conditions gets right to the point, and for some us an additional understanding about emotional roots behind our conditions makes it easier for us to be motivated in our healing. I do believe, you, Louise and I would agree that the big key to healing is self-love. 🙂

hi, Can anyone offer some spiritual suggestions for the cause of CCF heart failure conidition ???? In a womon of 72, overweight, resistant to any type of emotional or physical change, and rather narcissistic in temperament, possibly bording on narcissistic personality disorder….. wondering if anyone may be able to shed some light on heart chakra clearing ideas in order to relieve physical symptoms……. Seeing the heart is affected, there must be an energy blockage in the heart energy system. Hoping someone can shed some light…….
Misa Hopkins says
Invisible,
Perhaps your on-line name provides some clues for you. If you feel invisible, is it possible your heart is weakening to help you eventually become invisible? What would happen if you could see yourself, even some small part, as loveable; perhaps even more accurately, in need of some soothing understanding and compassion. If you suspect that the energy of the heart chakra is closed, it may want to be gently opened. Love, when we’ve been cut off from it, needs to be introduced a little at a time in small ways. For example, it can be loving and compassionate to give yourself a little time to just sit and enjoy the sunshine as you take in the natural beauty of Mother Earth. The sun and earth can be gentle healers as well as good teachers. As you spend time outside in the sunshine, if you allow, your heart chakra can more easily open. The sun and the earth teach us how life cooperates with life as all nature cooperates with each other. Our life forces rely on the sun and the earth, reminding us to be humble. The sun inspires us to enjoy what is here in the moment which stimulates a childlike enthusiasm for life. Consider letting that child-like spirit that wants to enjoy life to become more visible. The heart will follow.

hi there…
I am 28 years old and every time I had checked my blood presser I had that strange look on the face of the doctor for I used to donate blood every three months but I stopped because my blood presser was too high to allow then taking any of my blood. I agree with the reasons, and I know I never ate from KFC, McDonald or any junk food for that matters but the other reasons are 100% true and matching my situation, here is my problem, talking about taking life lightly and laughing about myself is a very strange concept to my mind that I can understand it!! I am serious here I want to get red of this sickness and I am not ready to take any of the medicines for high blood presser cause I red about it I am afraid and I tried them out for two months and the only out come was I can't wake up at the right time and makes me more angry! I am not aggressive, not with other people anyway, but I need some help to understand the way!! Thanks for the help.

Hello Muhammed, there are many helpful approaches to rebalancing blood pressure, and Misa's reply to you is wise and wonderful. I hope you have found a way to be kind to yourself and release any unhappy stories you may be carrying around – as we all tend to do. If you are looking for a sense of empowerment in maintaining your own well-being I suggest you learn a relatively simple procedure called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or 'tapping'. It is one of a range of self-help techniques generally known as Energy Psychology. There are many instances recorded & available from reputable websites where, within a very short period, people have reduced high blood pressure, and retained their good results simply by tapping on meridian points and focussing on their feelings, problems, underlying issues or whatever may be contributing to the physical condition, and releasing the stress therein. Check out EFT. It's a lovely way to 'diligently, lovingly and gently change your perspective' as Misa has written here. And it's surprising how easily we can shift from anger, fear, anxiety etc to a sense of relief and light-heartedness. And thank you to Misa for providing a beautiful space to share.
MisaH says
Lynsey,
Yes, EFT is a wonderful way to help free emotional blockages. The emotion code, freeing emotional blockages with magnets is also highly effective. Because emotions can be so visceral, it is easy to forget that they are also energy and can be addressed as energy. Sometimes we need the catharsis of emoting. Other times, we simply need to release the energetic charge. Whether you use the Creation Meditation, EFT or do Emotion Code Work, these are all ways of addressing the energy behind the emotions, freeing yourself to experience greater physical and emotional ease. Thank you Lynsey for suggesting such a beautiful and powerful tool!

Muhammed Amin,
Thanks for sharing your story. I do hope you can find a naturopathic doctor or herbalist to help you lower your blood pressure naturally. Feel free to check out my CD if you feel that might be helpful too. Your thoughts about laughter touched my heart. I remember a dear friend telling me he had to teach himself how to laugh because the concept was so foreign to him. He said his voice sounded very strange at first because he had not heard himself laugh. Now, he laughs with ease and there is a beautiful cadence in his laughter. Here is one of the wonderful secrets about healing that I have discovered. Sometimes we work too hard at healing by trying to make it happen, as if our thoughts alone could force healing to happen. Healing is often about diligently, lovingly and gently changing our perspectives about ourselves, others and life in general. In your case, it sounds like you identified the starting point—learning how to laugh. It sounds like your healing wisdom is coming through. Let me know how it goes.

Hi Misa
This is a wonderful resource. I am so glad that you covered it. As much as I help people alter their dietary and lifestyle habits, for a while now it has been clear to me that whether we are talking about high blood pressure or cancer, the root is always emotional in one way or another. Yes, environmental factors like toxins, stress, diet, etc play a HUGE role in what and how things will come to pass, but our emotional/spiritual/mental state of being is at the root cause of what we create at the energetic level.
Thus I am finding the area of looking for and understanding the root causes of all conditions very fascinating and look forward to exploring more and more on all these fronts.
MisaH says
Evita, thanks for sharing your insights and experience. I agree. There is a lot going on when our health is challenged. It is far too easy to assume we are having physical problems that requires only a physical solutions. Yet all the while, there are undercurrents of emotion motivating and affecting who we are, as our spirits long for us to step into our full potential. When we have the courage to address the internal roots and undercurrents, we free up our life forces to be more available for physical healing. Addressing the habits, as you do, is significant because habits often reflect old beliefs and ways in which we attempt to meet emotional needs. Bravo, for helping people address the changes they need to make as they are adopting new perspectives, beliefs and feelings about themselves.
MisaH says
Evita,
I have discovered this too. When both the physical and emotional roots are addressed, we have the best chance of healing. I look forward to hearing more from you!

Dear Misa
I must agree that the causes of high blood pressure, or hypertension are multiple, and the "normal" american diet would have to be high on the list. The australian dietary is not much better. The medications prescribed by the doctors only attend to sysmptoms. The emotional aspect is probably more important than we realise, and added to the other factors create this dangerous condition. Society with its bombardment from the media (even on the Internet!) helps to maintain the condition. Defusing the time bomb has to be done one step at a time, but I feel sure the problem can be solved and meditation can help by taking your foot off the accelerator (the gas pedal, as they say in your country) and start to take a calmer, clearer view of life. Definitely take a look at the dietary as a first urgent step. Tell the Colonel and McDonalds to find another victim!
